INDIANOLA, Pa.-- The Pitt women's soccer team captured a 2-1 over Xavier at Founders Field Friday evening. The win now puts the Panthers at 3-2-0 on the season while the Musketeers fell to 1-5-0.

The first goal of the night came from Xavier's Carlyanne Wenzel in the 33rd minute when she took a pass from Brittany Green and shot the ball into the left corner of the net.

Pitt responded quickly to the Musketeers goal when it scored only 47 seconds later. Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Quigley Catholic) found teammate Ashley Habbel (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) in front of the Xavier net. Habbel's shot from 15 yards out found the back of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

After Pitt's first goal, Jillian Chuck attempted a free kick for Xavier. Panther goalkeeper Alison Finch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) stopped Chuck's shot, but Carissa Gilbert got the rebound attempting another shot for Xavier. Finch once again made a diving save as the score remained tied at 1-1.

Seventeen minutes into the second period, Habbel received a pass from Kat Weiler (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) when Habbel collided with a Xavier defenseman only seconds after heading the ball to Katie Caslin (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's). Caslin scored the Panthers' second goal on an open net for the games' final of 2-1.

Next up for the Panthers is a matchup against Kent State. Pitt will take on the Golden Flashes on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1.p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
