Blue Wins Blue-Gold Swimming and Diving Meet

PITTSBURGH—Each winner of an individual event recorded a qualifying time for the Big East Championships, as Pitt’s Blue squad won its 2008 Blue-Gold swimming and diving meet at Trees Pool, this afternoon. The Blue earned a 159-111 victory over the Gold.
Pitt’s Blue squad of junior Ryann Kishbaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and sophomores Laura Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton), Caitlin Trant (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Emily DeStefano (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) won the first swimming event of the day, with a 1:47.56 in the 200 medley relay.
Kishbaugh later won the 100 back (58.15) and 200 back (2:06.77), while Barnes was victorious in the 100 breast (1:06.54).
Juniors Sophie Cross (Thornton, Pa./Glen Mills) and Lisa McDonnell (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) also won two events for Blue. Cross placed first in the 200 fly (2:10.62) and 200 IM (2:11.86), while McDonnell outlasted her opponents in the 50 free (24.64) and 100 free (53.23).
Sophomore Kristen McMullan (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was the sole multi-event winner for the Gold team, touching the wall first in the 100 fly (59.08) and as the first leg of the 200 free relay (1:39.55).
In diving competition, the Blue swept the meet with sophomore Mallory Mullady (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) winning the 1M event and senior captain Sabrina Jennings (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) placing first on the 3M board.
Pitt opens its 2008-09 slate on Oct. 24, at 4 p.m., against St. Bonaventure.
