PITTSBURGH -
The Pitt women’s basketball team (2-1) will return to action Friday against Elon at 4 p.m. as a part of the Pitt Thanksgiving Classic. Prior to the Pitt contest, Weber State will take on Youngstown State at 2 p.m. The tournament will wrap up Saturday with the consolation game at 2 p.m. and the championship game at 4 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.
Elon enters the game with a 1-3 record on the year. Pitt and the Phoenix have never played each other. Weber State comes in with a 2-1 record and Youngstown State is looking for its first win at 0-3. Pitt holds an 11-3 series record over the Penguins and is 7-1 at home.
Pitt’s last contest, a 21-point victory over Penn State, gave senior guard Xenia Stewart (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist) her 1,000th career point as a Panther. Stewart now sits at 1,001 in her fourth season as a starter.
The Panthers, who were ranked to start the season, are receiving votes in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls.
Both Pitt games of the tournament can be viewed through live streaming, and heard live over www.pittsburghpanthers.com as a part of All Access or on taped delay at approximately 6 p.m. locally on FOX Sports Radio 970 AM with Mike Clark and Jen Tuscano calling the action.
