PITTSBURGH (AP) -Kate Popovec scored 15 points and didn't miss a field-goal attempt, Shavonte Zellous had 13 and No. 24 Pittsburgh opened the second half with a decisive run to beat city opponent Duquesne 66-47 Wednesday night.
The Panthers (5-1) stretched a 27-23 lead at halftime into a 42-27 advantage with a 15-4 run. Zellous started the run with a 3-pointer and Popovec ended it with a layup.
Keri Pryor scored 18 points for Duquesne (6-2), which was held to 29.1 percent shooting (16-of-55). Popovec, who was 7-of-7 from the floor but missed one of two free throws, had 12 rebounds as Pitt held a 44-34 edge.
The game was played at the same time, but on Duquesne's home floor, as the No. 3 Pitt men's team defeated the Dukes 78-51 at the Petersen Events Center.
