PITTSBURGH -
Members of the University of Pittsburgh men's track and field team competed at the Big East Indoor Championships this weekend at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in New York City. The Panthers came away with three All-Big East honorees, including two event titles.
All-American Mike Wray (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) continued his dominance in the 60-meter hurdles by posting an NCAA provisional time of 7.73 in the prelims. He went on to take first-place finish in the finals with a time of 7.75. The title marked Wray's second of his career and earned him his fourth All-Big East honor.
Triple jumper Eric Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) captured the Panthers' other event title with a distance of 15.26 meters. Jones' performance garnered him his first Big East title and second All-Big East selection, with the other coming at last year's outdoor championships in the same event.
Senior A.J. Kielinski (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) burst into the top-three in the men's weight throw competition after finishing sixth at the last two Big East Indoor meets. His distance of 18.58 meters was good enough for third place overall and gave him his first All-Big East nod.
Sam Bair (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) narrowly missed out on a seventh straight All-Big East selection as he took fourth in the finals of the mile with a time of 4:06.53.
The Panthers will enjoy an off week before traveling to Boston, Mass., for the IC4A Championships on March 8-9.
