YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio-Senior Leah Friedman becomes the 11th member of the 100-Victory Club, as Pitt's women's tennis team ends a three-match skid with a shutout victory over Youngstown State 7-0. The Panthers improved to 4-6 in the win.
With two wins on the day, Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) is just the 11th player in program history to record 100 wins in her career and becomes the third member of the current roster to achieve that feat. She now boasts 101 total wins and improves to 55-29 in doubles, just one shy of tying the fourth-best total for career doubles.
Also moving up in history, junior Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) tallied two wins on the day, making her one win shy of tying the all-time career wins record. With 125 victories she moved ahead of Fran Davis' (1994-98) mark of 124 wins.
Additionally, senior Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) recorded her 120th career win, tying Dana Jafarian (1997-2001) for fourth.
Friedman, Borza and Smith combined to make history as this is the first-ever season three Panthers have over 100 victories in their careers. Junior Christie D'Achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) trails slightly with 78 career wins.
The Panthers travel to St. Bonaventure and Syracuse on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Pitt is 11-5 all-time against the Bonnies and 0-2 in the series against the Orange.
