Women's Tennis Wins Its 10th Match of the Season

LEWISBURGH, Pa.--For the third consecutive season, Pitt earns a 10-win season as the Panthers defeat Bucknell, 5-2, this evening. Pitt improved to 10-7 on the season, while the Bison evened their record to 7-7 on the year.
Freshman Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) shutout her opponent in No. 3 singles and as part of the No. 1 doubles team. Adams is 23-9 in singles action this season and 16-3 when combined with junior Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) in doubles.
In fact, the match opened with the Panthers sweeping the doubles, as the No. 1 doubles team and the No. 3 duo each shutout their opponents. Recording a comeback singles win, junior Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) dropped the first set 4-6, but won the second and third sets 6-3 and 7-5 for her 17th singles win of the season and 50th career singles victory.
Pitt will conclude its regular-season slate on Wednesday, April 9, in a 12:30 match against crosstown rival Duquesne at Club 4 Life. For the third consecutive year, the Panthers and Dukes will combine to collect donations to benefit the Nike Foundation, which uses education and training to help girls and women in third world countries escape poverty and support their families.
