Women's Soccer Defeats Duquesne 4-3 in Scrimmage

PITTSBURGH —The Pitt women's soccer team rolled out to a 3-0 first half en route to a 4-3 exhibition victory at Duquesne on Saturday. Pitt opens non-conference regular season competition Friday evening at Akron. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Pitt dominated first half play, taking an early 3-0 lead. Freshman Katie Ruhe put Pitt up 1-0 when she finished off a shot after taking a pass from junior Ashley Habbel. Habbel, who is ranked among school career scoring leaders, scored two goals of her own to give Pitt a 3-0 lead.
Pitt played mainly inexperienced players in the second half and it took awhile to adjust to the speed of the game. A second half goal by redshirt freshman Alexandra Jaffe proved to be the game winner.
Pitt also received strong performances were also put in by Liz Carroll and Kat Weiler.
"We have had a great preseason," Pitt Head Coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "The girls have been very focused, competitive, and we have had a great team spirit. This group really understands the term TEAM, we have 26 united girls."
Chin begins her sixth season as head coach Pitt. Pitt has advanced to postseason play in two of the last three seasons.
