Women's Volleyball Falls in 'White Out' Match

PITTSBURGH—Junior Amy Town recorded a double-double on the day, as the University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball team dropped its ‘White Out’ match to Notre Dame, 3-0, this afternoon, at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers fell in set scores of 30-32, 21-25 and 22-25. Pitt slipped to 13-8 on the season and 5-2 in the Big East, while the Fighting Irish improved to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in the league.
Town sang the National Anthem in front of a crowd of 1,123 fans to start the match and finished the day with 15 digs and 13 kills.
Senior Meagan Dooley chipped in 10 kills and four blocks, while junior Imani Harper added eight kills and three blocks.
Defensively, senior Michelle Rossi collected 13 digs, and the Panthers recorded a collective seven blocks in the match.
Pitt held set point six times in the opening game, but dropped the set, 32-30. The Panthers out-blocked the Fighting Irish, 3-2, and were led by Town with six kills in the set. Additionally, Dooley recorded a match-high .833 hitting percentage in the set, going 5-for-6.
In the second set, Pitt held Notre Dame at set point for five serves, but fell 25-21 in the contest. Dooley recorded an ace and assisted on both of Pitt’s blocks in the game. Harper and senior Melissa Stadelman led the Panthers with three kills, each.
Later, Town led the Panthers with five kills and four digs in the final set. Stadelman also hit at .600, going 3-for 5 in the game. Additionally, sophomore Allyson Hodnik recorded 12 assists on the 13 Pitt kills. Hodnik assisted on 38 kills in the match.
The Panthers host DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m.
