No. 24/20 Pitt 80, Marshall 58
November 28, 2009, Petersen Events Center
Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato Opening Statement:
“I was really happy with the victory. Anytime you can win a tournament at home, it’s a good thing. I think that we played with a lot of heart and emotion. We had good leadership on the court. When you’re ranked this early, everybody is gunning for you. Marshall is a good team. They are tall and very well-coached. We aren’t too happy about the rebounding, but we did out-rebound them. We scored 24 points off of their turnovers. I think that’s great. In everything, we really out-did them. Jania Sims deserved MVP, but Shayla Scott and Chelsea Cole were fabulous. It’s a compliment that all of the coaches voted for three players from the University of Pittsburgh. Chelsea is getting better every game. I thought that this was Shayla’s most complete weekend.”
On Taneisha Harrison...
“I think that she is an explosive player. She is the type of player, if given the opportunity that can be a difference-maker. She saw the opportunity to be aggressive. The defense was collapsing and Taneisha stepped into her shot. We look to her to be a scorer. I was happy to see her bounce back.”
Jania Sims
On Pitt being in control for the entire game...
“It felt good to have the lead and to keep it. Our game plan was to be aggressive and I think that we stuck with that the entire game. We executed our plays. It felt a lot better than yesterday.”
Chelsea Cole
On gaining confidence...
“My confidence is going up a lot. It helps that my teammates have the confidence in me to keep giving me the ball and that my coaches have confidence in me.”
