COLUMBUS, Ohio—Sophomore Rousseau Kluever advanced to the finals of the 200 fly on the final day of the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational. Pitt’s men’s team finished the three-day meet in seventh place with 147 points.
In Pitt’s best finish of the evening, Kluever placed 12th in the 200 fly with a season best 1:51.59. In fact, the Panthers as a whole set numerous season-best finishes this weekend.
“Swimming against Penn State, Ohio State, Minnesota and rivals Notre Dame and West Virginia gave us a high level of competition,” Head Swim Coach Chuck Knoles said. “Our goal was to swim season-best times, and 90 percent of the team accomplished just that. We learned a lot about our team as coaches and athletes.”
Junior Bobby Smith also improved upon his morning swim with a 1:52.56 finish in the finals of the 200 back.
In the 100 free, freshman Hussein Medhat placed 21st in the finals with a time of 46.26.
Medhat was also the lead leg of the 400 free relay team, who finished 10th with a time of 3:05.80. Joining him on the relay team was junior Andrzej Dubiel, sophomore Jake Van Roekel and senior Justin Corvin.
In this morning’s prelims, sophomore Aidan Considine and freshman Nick Sharp placed 26th and 28th, respectively, in the 200 breast.
Also placing in the top 30 of the 200 back, senior Jonathon Buchanan touched the wall at 1:55.69. Earlier, seniors Charlie Zettel (1:54.26) and Geoff Morgan (1:55.90) and sophomore Ryan Lynn (1:56.08) placed in the top 35 of the 200 fly.
The Panthers will rest and resume action on Saturday, Jan. 9, against Backyard Rival West Virginia.
