LEXINGTON, Ky.—Seniors Meagan Dooley and Michelle Rossi added another post-season accolade to their list, as the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the two of them as members of the 2009 AVCA All-Northeast Region Team.
Just weeks after being named Big East Player of the Year, Dooley earned her first all-region honor. The unanimous all-conference selection led the league in blocks per set (1.71), points per set (4.94) and finished second in hitting percentage (.386).
Additionally, Dooley ranked as high as sixth, nationally, in blocks per set and was in the country’s top 20 in overall points per set. This season, she eclipsed the 19-year old single-season record for blocks (168), last set by Michele Adamson (1990) at 167. In her career, she ranks second overall in career total blocks (519), block assists (394) and solo blocks (125).
Rossi earned All-Northeast Honorable Mention honors, after garnering Pitt’s second-ever Big East Libero of the Year award and her first All-Big East selection. This past season, she boasted a 4.89 digs per set average and ranked in the top-50 nationally in that same category.
A 2008 all-region selection, Rossi collected 2,078 digs in her career and ranks second overall on the program’s record list. She recorded 20 or more digs in 11 matches this season, including four with 30 or more. Rossi tallied a career-high 37 digs against Seton Hall, which was one shy of a school record.
The Panthers ended their season with a 20-11 overall record, which included a school record 12 Big East wins and 13 shutouts. Nine of those shutouts were in conference action, setting another program standard.
