PITTSBURGH- A handful of Pitt track and field athletes who competed at the Armory in New York City last weekend were up against some of the best track and field athletes in the nation. The competition will not let up this weekend at the Tyson Invitational that is to be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a city that is often referred to as the track capital of the world.
Pitt athletes heading to Arkansas will see competition from the some of the nation's top collegiate teams. Those athletes not competing at the Tyson Invitational will travel to Akron, Ohio to participate in the Akron Invitational meet.
On the women's side, Susan Martinez and Kari Hedderick will be looking to improve their 800 meter times. Martinez ran the event in 2:17.48 while Hedderick clocked in at 2:18.78 last weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
For the men, Dontave Cowsette should look to drop some time in the 800 meter run, while teammate Greg Kareis should look to do the same in the mile.
Both meets are scheduled for Feb. 13 through Feb. 14. The 10th annual Tyson Invitational will be held at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center at the University of Arkansas. Those traveling to the University of Akron will compete at the Stile Field House.
