PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team resumes Big East play on Friday, March 20, when its hosts Villanova. The Panthers and Wildcats are slated for an 11 a.m. start at The Club in Monroeville.
The Panthers are coming off a mid-week, non-conference win over Youngstown State (5-2). With a 9-3 overall record, Pitt holds a flawless 4-0 mark in Big East action.
All season, the Panthers have taken an early lead in the match, as they have won the doubles point in all but one contest this season. Led by the No. 1 doubles team of senior Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and sophomore Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) with an 18-2 record, Pitt has remained strong with the addition of the No. 3 doubles team of Shannon Benic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and Christie D’Achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny).
Borza is the record holder in career singles (89) and career doubles (80), while Adams moved into the top 16 on the career doubles list with 39 overall wins in just two seasons.
Villanova was in town last week, facing Duquesne, where they fell 6-1. The Panthers hold a 12-6 advantage in the all-time series, which includes Pitt winning the last six of seven matches. The Panthers shutout the Wildcats (7-0), last season.
