Men's Track Finishes Second at Morgan State Legacy

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The University of Pittsburgh men's track and field team turned in a strong performance at the Morgan State Legacy meet, hosted by Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md. The Panthers tallied 98.50 points, finishing in second place behind champion Illinois who totaled 177.50 points in the two-day meet.
Antony Hobwana collected two top-five finishes on the day, taking third in the 100 meter dash (10.51) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (21.59).
In the 400 meter hurdles, the brothers Lowery finished fifth and sixth. Jerome edged Jermaine, clocking in four-hundredths of a second sooner at 53.54.
In the distance events, Matt Norwood claimed first place honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:46.46 while Greg Kareis was second in the 1,500 meter run, crossing the finish line at 3:58.70.
On the field events side, Eric Jones hit an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the triple jump, taking second with a leap of 15.11 meters. Jones also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 7.23 meters. Nick Malenka took second in the pole vault (4.75 meters) while Jay Pittenger finished seventh in the high jump with a height of 2.00 meters.
In the hammer throw, Garret Larkin and Kurt Barnhart finished second and third respectively with throws of 45.30 meters and 37.83 meters. Larkin also finished third in the shot put with a mark of 15.95 meters. Matthew Raquet's heave of 54.40 meters in the javelin gave him second place.
The Panthers will be in action this coming weekend as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the prestigious Penn Relays.
