Field Events Pave Way at Penn Relays for Panthers

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh’s men’s track and field garnered five top-20 finishes at the annual Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.
Garret Larkin and Dan Kwiatkowski both picked up top-20 marks in the men’s shot put. Larkin’s mark of 15.87 meters was good for ninth while Kwiatkowski placed 18th with a distance of 14.78 meters.
Eric Jones was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.91 meters while Jay Pittenger took eighth in the high jump (2.04 meters) and Nick Malenka 14th in the pole vault (4.6 meters).
The Lowery brothers finished less than a second apart in the 400 meter hurdles, with Jerome edging Jermaine. Jerome’s time of 54.64 was good for 37th while Jermaine clocked in at 55.13 for 39th overall.
The sprint medley championship of America team comprised of Antony Hobwana, Jerome Lowery, Brione Reid-Carthan and Dontave Cowsette finished in 3:24.48, nabbing 13th place overall.
The men’s team will pick up action this week at the Big East Outdoor Championships, hosted by Villanova University, May 1-3.
