Pitt Women Travel to Indiana, Square Off With Valparaiso

PITTSBURGH -The Pittsburgh women's basketball team returns to action with a non-conference tilt at Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Ind. The 2:35 p.m. contest will be streamed live at the following link: http://www.horizonleaguenetwork.tv/live/2260
The Panthers (4-4) are coming off a 67-51 loss to DePaul on Tuesday, Dec. 7, the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Senior Jania Sims led the way with 15 points, while freshman Asia Logan added 12 off the bench.
Valparaiso (2-6) dropped a 73-65 decision at IPFW on Thursday. The Crusaders rallied from 20 down, only to fall short in the final minute. Valpo is led in scoring by Betsy Adams, who is averaging 14.8 points per game.
The teams are meeting for the second time in program history. Last season (12/8/09), Pitt posted a 77-52 victory at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt is 27-6 all-time against teams from the Horizon League.
Saturday's game begins a swing of three-straight away/neutral contests and the start of seven of the next eight games for Pitt on an opponent's floor.
Senior Taneisha Harrison is closing in on a personal milestone, the 1,000 point mark. The guard from Bowie, Md. is just 12 points away from becoming Pitt's 16th 1,000-point scorer.
The guest coaches for the contest at Valpo are Gary and Roberta Brownlee. The Brownlees are members of the Pitt Club of Chicago and are listed on the Honor Roll of Donors. They reside in Valparaiso.
