SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team had its three-match unbeaten streak snapped at the hands of Big East Conference rival Syracuse University, 7-0, here today in New York.
A day after the Panthers (3-2, 1-2 Big East) completed a dominating 6-1 win over St. Bonaventure, the Orange (9-2, 3-0 Big East) had their number, sweeping both doubles and singles action.
“We were defeated today by an outstanding Syracuse tennis team,” said head coach George Dieffenbach. “Our team was competitive and we learned from this loss to become more offensive as well as consistent.”
Elizabeth Adams and Shannon Benic came closest to victory in doubles action, but could not close the team of Harmon and Jones out.
Freshman Gabi Catanzariti lost her first dual match of the season at No. 4 singles, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Alessondra Parra.
Pitt will off until March 9 when they travel to Norfolk State for a non-conference matchup in Virginia. Match time in Norfolk is slated to start at 2 p.m.
