Several Panthers Post Season Bests at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Several Panthers recorded season bests and met IC4A standards, as the University of Pittsburgh men’s track and field team concluded regular-season action in the Penn Relays, held at Franklin Field.
With over 40 athletes competing in the 400M hurdles, sophomore Jermaine Lowery turned in a team-best and IC4A standard of 52.91 in the event. Lowery won his heat of the event and placed 10th overall.
Earning an IC4A qualifying finish, the 4x100M relay team turned in a time of 42.23. The squad consisted of freshman Tashaun Hill, junior Antony Hobwana, sophomore Idris Kasumu and senior Sam Perkins.
Already an IC4A qualifier, junior Garrett Larkin turned in a sixth-place performance with an IC4A finish of 15.74M in the shot put.
Pitt finished sixth overall in the distance medley. The team of freshman Kevin Hull and sophomores Jerome Lowery, Dontave Cowsette and Greg Kareis combined for a time of 9:51.24 in the event.
Individually, Jerome Lowery also qualified for next week’s Big East Championships, with a season-best 54.21 finish in the 400M hurdles.
Also earning Big East standards, senior Brandon Turner finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.44M, while sophomore Folarin Ijelu was 12th overall in the long jump with a team and season-best mark of 7.07M.
The Big East Outdoor Championships will be held from Friday, April 30-Sunday, May 2 at Gettler Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
