Women's Tennis Wins Doubles Point At Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y.--Pitt's women's tennis team earns the doubles point to start the match, however, the Panthers drop a 4-3 decision to Buffalo this afternoon. Pitt slipped to 1-3 on the year, while the Bulls improved to 2-1 overall.
Pitt earned the doubles point with victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Senior Elizabeth Adams and sophomore Gabrielle Catanzariti recorded its second win of the weekend with a 9-7 victory.
Posting the same score, freshmen Karma Parbhu and Taylor Washington were paired together for the first time this season and aided Pitt to a 1-0 lead in the match.
After winning the doubles point, the Panthers earned two wins in singles play. First, freshman Jocelyn Lu defeated Marta Stoyanova in No. 3 singles. A hard fought victory, Lu had to hold off her opponent in a 7-6 (4) first set. She would then tally a 6-4 score in the second set to earn the win.
Playing a tiebreaker herself, Adams picked up her sixth of the year in No. 1 singles. After a 7-6 (5) first set, she fell 6-3 to Aleksanda Petrova. Adams would later prevail in the deciding set with a 13-11 victory. That win was her 69th singles career victory and the 130th overall as a Panther.
Pitt will host two matches at Oxford Athletic Club this week. The Panthers face Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m. Next, the squad plays Syracuse at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.
