The team recognized and honored senior student-athletes Chelsea Cole, Taneisha Harrison, Shayla Scott and Jania Sims. Senior team manager Mary Jo Winters and former player Selena Nwude were also recognized. Nwude’s career was cut short due to injury.
Senior Chelsea Cole collected her 16th double-double of the season, a BIG EAST best. She has recorded 20 games in double-digit rebounds.
Cole raised her career rebound total to 985, just 15 boards away from becoming just the second player
Senior Taneisha Harrison tallied her 25th double-digit scoring output of the season and sixth consecutively. She had 11 points.
Senior Shayla Scott registered 20 points, a team-best. It marks the fourth time she led the team in scoring this season in a single game. It is also the second time in her career she has topped the 20-point mark. She recorded a career-high 21 points against Syracuse on February 1, 2010.
Scott went 3-of-4 from three-point range, marking the sixth time this season had three or more 3’s in a game.
Pitt had 11 turnovers, the second lowest total this season. It tallied a season-low nine turnovers against Cincinnati on Feb.
The Panthers free throw percentage (.444, 8-of-14) was their lowest of the season. The effort was the worst since Duquesne on Dec. 29, 2009 (.400, 6-of-15).
The loss snapped Pitt’s six-game winning streak over Villanova. The Wildcats last win in Pittsburgh before tonight came in 2005.
The Panthers out-rebounded the Wildcats 39-32, largely in part to Cole’s 15 boards.
