HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team completed regular-season action this afternoon when the Panthers dropped a 7-0 decision to Marshall at Brian David Fox Tennis Courts. The Panthers slipped to 8-12 overall and The Herd improved to 17-5 on the year.
Leading early on, freshman Kimmy Borza led 2-1 in No. 3 singles to start the match. However, her opponent would make a push and win three of the next four to take the eventual 4-3 lead. Borza would win three games in the second set, as well.
Later, in No. 6 singles, junior Minh Evans was slightly trailing 4-3 in her close first set. Evans would then drop the next two games to her opponent. In her second set Russell was swept in the six games.
Earlier in the match, Pitt dropped the doubles points, falling in all three matches. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Elizabeth Adams and Gabrielle Catanzariti battled back in their contest after trailing 6-3 early on. The pair would sweep the next two games and pulled within one, 6-5. However, The Herd’s duo would take the next two for the win.
