BLACKSBURG, Va. – After becoming the first Pitt doubles team to ever reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional tournament, Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan were defeated by VCU on Monday morning at the Burrows-Burlson Tennis Center.
Blakely and Ogungbesan were defeated by the Rams’ duo of Kvitishivilli/Barsheuskaya, 8-3. The Pitt tandem, who received an opening round bye, finished the tournament with a 2-1 doubles record.
“It’s really great to see the girls buying in, learning and processing,” assistant coach Emily Fraser said. “Our first ever quarterfinals appearance at the ITA Regional is evidence of success ahead if we keep pushing and understand what it is to truly sacrifice and work hard. We are proud of Lolade and Audrey Ann for pushing the program and the rest of the girls, and we know the team is still hungry for more.”
The Panthers finished the ITA Atlantic Regional with an overall singles mark of 8-9 and a doubles record of 2-3. Pitt had three players earn a spot in the 64-player main draw for singles.
Pitt has one final fall tournament remaining at Harvard Nov. 7-9 before opening up its spring season in late January.
