PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team will return to action at the Petersen Events Center on Monday evening when the Panthers host Niagara University at 7 p.m.
Pitt (0-1) will look for its first win after suffering a season opening loss to Princeton on Friday morning by the score of 59-43. Brianna Kiesel scored a team-high 14 points and she is now 11 points shy of moving into ninth place on Pitt's all-time scoring list. Kiesel has 1,362 career points.
Five new players made their debuts for the Panthers against the Tigers on Friday. Freshman Stasha Carey was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while fellow freshman Yacine Diop added six points and nine rebounds. Senior Monica Wignot saw first career action and finished the game with seven points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Freshman Aysia Bugg (three points) and Jordan Serio (no points, three minutes) also saw their first career action.
Niagara is 0-1 after an 81-63 loss to Youngstown State on Saturday in Ohio. Junior Sylvia Maxwell was the only Purple Eagle in doubles figures with 16 points.
This will be the third ever meeting between Pitt and Niagara as the Panthers are unbeaten in the previous two encounters. The Last time the two teams met was in 1994 when Pitt came away with an 86-70 victory.
