CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team will travel north to compete in the Harvard Invitational this weekend, November 7-9 at the Murr Center.
All seven Panthers will be contending in the final fall tournament of the season. Also competing in this tournament will be Boston University, Cornell and Syracuse along with the host Crimson.
"This weekend is another opportunity for our girls to compete and get better," head coach Alex Santos. "As always, we want to make sure that we are brining our best competitive spirits and the most amount of passion and pride. Tennis-wise, the girls' games have become much more complete and they've become sharper at the little details that make the difference."
In singles, Audrey Ann Blakely, Lolade Ogungbesan, Amber Washington and Callie Frey were all placed in the ‘A’ Flight. Frey will play in a play-in match for the final spot in the 16 player bracket. Molly Wickman, Katherine Castro and Amanda Wickman will participate in the 'B' Flight.
In doubles, Molly Wickman and Blakely are will take on Ringblom/Mirda from Harvard, while Washington/Ogungbesan will face Mitchell/Messineo from Syracuse. The duo of Amanda Wickman/Frey will square off against Lee/Lin from Harvard.
The Panthers enter this weekend with an overall singles record of 35-51 and a doubles record of 18-22. The doubles duo of Blakely/Ogungbesan reached the quarterfinals at the ITA Regional Tournament on October 20th in Blacksburg, Virginia, becoming the first ever Pitt pairing to do so.
