GREENSBORO, N.C. – For her career-high 30 point performance against Saint Francis on Sunday, senior guard Brianna Kiesel has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Kiesel notched her first-ever 30 point outing on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor and also made 14 of her 16 free throws. She added six rebounds, five assists and a career-best seven steals to her stat line as the Panthers defeated the Red Flash 97-59 to improve to 9-3 on the year.
“We are so proud of Brianna for winning this honor after a fantastic all-around game against Saint Francis,” head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio said. “Brianna is so unselfish on the court, but her teammates wanted her to reach the 30 point milestone because she deserves it with all the hard work she puts in.”
Kiesel’s senior campaign is off to a fantastic start as she is averaging a career-best 17.7 points per game. She ranks seventh in the ACC in scoring and is leading the league in assist/turnover ratio (3.7), while also ranking second in assists (4.6) and steals (2.5).
This is Kiesel’s second career ACC Player of the Week nod. She was awarded the same honor last season in the opening week of ACC play when she was also named the USBWA National Player of the Week.
Kiesel and the Panthers conclude their non-conference slate on Tuesday evening when they host Delaware State at 5 p.m. Pitt is riding an eight game home winning streak which is tied for the longest in Petersen Events Center history.
Tuesday’s contest marks game five of a seven game home-stand as the Panthers open the ACC scheduled with Louisville (Jan. 4) and North Carolina (Jan. 8), both of which are ranked inside the AP Top-10.
