Pitt Gymnastics Places Third at Lindsey Ferris Invitational

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-3, 0-2 EAGL) traveled to Washington, D.C., on Sunday where they competed in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational hosted by George Washington. The Panthers finished the meet in third place with a score of 192.625.
Fellow EAGL competitors No. 19 George Washington and No. 28 UNC finished ahead of Pitt with scores of 195.025 and 194.550 respectively, while the Panthers outperformed Cornell (189.200) and Temple (187.275).
Leading the way for Pitt was Miya Dotson who was the Panthers only individual event winner of the afternoon. Dotson tied with GW's Alex DeMoura and North Carolina's Kaitlynn Hedelund for first place on the uneven bars with a 9.825, tying her career high which she set while at Western Michigan.
Other top scores for Pitt include Tracey Pearson and Maebelle Pacheco's 9.825 on vault and Lindsay Offutt's 9.800 on floor.
The Panthers started off the afternoon on beam, scoring a 48.025. Pearson led the way for Pitt with a 9.750 while Laura Kummerle, who competed for the first time this season, notched a 9.700. Following the first rotation, the Panthers were in third place and maintained that place for the rest of the meet.
Floor proved to be a rough rotation for Pitt as the team only scored a 47.625 overall, the second lowest of all five teams. Offutt finished the lineup with a strong showing, receiving a 9.800. The Panthers next highest score came in as a 9.650 which was owned by Taylor Laymon.
Pitt scored their second highest event total on the third rotation with a 48.550 on vault. Pearson and Pacheco led the Panthers in that rotation followed by Erika Reichert and Dotson's 9.675.
Pitt's 48.425 on the uneven bars in the final rotation turned out to be the best event score of the Invitational. The total included first place winner Dotson's 9.825 and Taylor Laymon's 9.775. Offut finished on bars with a 9.750, which is a new career high for the junior.
The Panthers only had one competitor in the all-around in Tracey Pearson, who finished seventh overall with a 38.475.
Pitt will return to action on Jan. 24 when they head to Durham, N.H. to take on EAGL foe, New Hampshire, in a 4 p.m. meet.
