
Pitt Visits Michigan for Big/Ten ACC Challenge

PITTSBURGH - Participating in its second ever Big Ten/ACC Challenge, the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team travels to Ann Arbor for a game at Michigan on Thursday night at the Crisler Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
The Panthers enter the contest at 4-2 overall and will look to hand Michigan (6-0) its first loss of the season.
In Pitt's first Big Ten/ACC Challenge game last year, the Panthers defeated Ohio State 78-74 in Columbus for one of their marquee wins of the season. Ohio State would go on to finish the season ranked 20th in the nation.
The ACC leads the overall series with the Big Ten 6-0-2. The two leagues tied last season at seven wins apiece.
PARADISE JAM:
The Panthers went 1-2 in the U.S. Virgin Islands last weekend with a win over Old Dominion and losses to South Dakota State and No. 6 Maryland.
Sophomore guard Aysia Bugg was named to the All-Tournament Team for averaging 14.7 points on 51.5 percent shooting in the three games combined. She also made nine of her 14 shots from downtown.
WALTERS LEADING THE WAY:
Freshman Kalista Walters is the team's leading scorer at 13.2 points per game. She has scored in double figures four times and most impressively, is making 58.9 percent of her shots which ranks fifth in the ACC.
FAMILIAR FOE:
This is the third straight season the Panthers and the Wolverines have met. Michigan hosted Pitt two years ago and defeated the Panthers 83-75. Pitt returned the favor last season in Pittsburgh with a convincing 85-64 victory in which the Panthers made a school record 13 3-pointers. The Panthers lead the all-time series 3-2.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN:
The Wolverines rank second nationally in field goal percentage at 53.6 percent, led by freshman Hallie Thome who is leading the nation at 76.6 percent. Katelynn Flaherty is the team's leading scorer at 18.8 ppg.
