PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to ACC-foe No. 14 Wake Forest, 4-0, Saturday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
The Panthers are now 3-1-1 on the season, while the Demon Deacons continue their perfect 5-0-0 start to the 2015 campaign.
“It was a difficult game,” said head coach Joe Luxbacher. “I think we were ready mentally, but we gave up a bad early goal and then we seemed to be chasing the game after that.”
Although unable to preserve his four-game shutout streak, senior goalkeeper Dan Lynd made four saves through the full 90 minutes.
Wake Forest held the Panthers to just one shot that came in the second half from senior Patrick Dixon.
Four different Deacs found the back of the net, including senior Michael Gamble who recorded the first goal in the fifth minute.
Wake Forest tacked on one more goal in the opening frame, taking an early 2-0 lead.
The second half opened in similar fashion as the Demon Deacons tallied two more goals coming in the 69th minute and the 81st minute.
The Panthers will resume ACC play Saturday, Sept. 19 when the team heads to Newton, Mass., to take on Boston College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
