No. 20 Panthers Finish 4-0 at Pitt Duals

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt wrestling team finished the annual Pitt Duals with four wins, including its first ACC victory of the season, Saturday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers defeated Duke, Davidson, Brown and Franklin & Marshall and improving their overall record to 9-1 (1-0 ACC).
No. 17 Dom Forys and Cody Wiercioch were the only Panthers to record wins in all four duals.
Pitt picked up its first ACC victory of the season after a dominating pin from No. 20 Ryan Solomon lifted the Panthers to a 23-19 win.
The dual started off with a Blue Devil forfeit at 125 pounds, automatically giving Pitt a 6-0 lead. Forys (133) followed that with a 26-8 technical fall over Brandon Leynaud in 6:13, to extend Pitt's lead to 11-0.
Following the next three bouts, Duke claimed the lead 13-11. Cody Wiercioch (165) got Pitt back in the win column after a 6-2 decision over No. 12 Jake Faust. TeShan Campbell followed that with a 9-2 decision over Alec Schenk, bringing the team score to 17-13 in favor of the Panthers.
The Blue Devils won by decision in the next two bouts and regained a 19-17 lead.
With the dual on the line, Solomon pinned his opponent in 4:59, to lead Pitt to a 23-19 win.
The Panthers used their momentum in the second dual of the day against Davidson. Five Pitt wrestlers recorded pins en route to a 43-3 win and largest win margin of the day.
In the third round, Pitt posted another dominating performance over Brown. Seven Panthers recorded victories over their opponents in the 29-9 win.
Pitt faced Franklin & Marshall in the final round of the day and came out with a 25-12 win. Four Panthers contributed bonus points to the victory.

Pitt hosts No. 7 Oklahoma State Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
