Pitt Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio
On Jasmine Whitney's performance tonight:
"She has come in right from the beginning and immediately impacted our team. She's so smart as a point guard, she's confident, she can score, she can shoot it, she's a playmaker. I just love everything about her game. Going into this game, and not knowing where we were going with the starting lineup because of Aysia Bugg. She had been playing the point, and is a leader, and played it last year, but Jasmine makes us better. She controls the pace with her at the point. Playing with two primary ball handlers, I was very proud of the way she played today. She ran the team, she was a scorer, a leader, and she's going to be exciting to watch for four years and I'm glad I have the opportunity to coach her."
On the team's ball movement and producing 23 assists:
"The chemistry on this team has been very good since day one. I think that has translated to on the court with unselfish play, making the extra pass and finding people, allowing the offense to work. That's one thing I love about this team is the way they've come together in such a short time with the newcomers and the returners, on and off the court. Today it really showed how much they enjoy playing together."
On the return of some injured players that provide experience:
"Right now my job is easy. We have eight and three quarters players. Tania Lamb is still dealing with a little bit of an injury. Once we start to get those players back they are going to make my job even more difficult with finding playing time. With Cassidy Walsh and Yacine Diop and Madison Serio, the three of them being out, once we get them back, finding minutes and balancing this team and now working on those combinations. Developing chemistry once again will be a challenge but hopefully by then we will be a better team by the time those three come back. When we are much healthier and have everyone at full strength, it's going to be an exciting year."
On preparing for School Day on Monday versus Youngstown St. and the expected 10,000 fans:
"Tomorrow in practice we are going to have some crowd noise built in and just get ourselves ready. It will be keeping it simple in our play-calling, through dead balls and free throws, and just let our players play through the course of the game. It is going to be loud, we've had half that in here in the past and it's been loud and it's been crazy. I'm really looking forward to it it's going to be an exciting day and hopefully our players enjoy it as well.
Pitt Guard Jasmine Whitney
On her first collegiate game:
"It was fun. It was good to play with everyone for the first time live. It was fun, the chemistry was good, and it felt good."
On her second half play:
"Coach [McConnell-Serio] always tells us to rebound so that was my main focus as well as defense. The other things just came off of just playing and having my teammates find me to contribute."
On building confidence moving forward:
"I think it was a good first game for us to get our confidence up. We have to go into practice, keep working hard and come out for the next team."
Pitt Forward Kauai Bradley
On her first double-double at Pitt:
"It is a new season; we have been working hard in practice. It was nice to come out here and put it all together. We played all together and we played hard."
On the new players contributing during the game:
"They are integral pieces of our team. They work hard, they are very confident, and they're always working hard. They are giving us their best effort."
