Pitt Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio
On what it was like to get back on the court:
"Game experience was very necessary for us today. We saw a lot of good things, but we also have a lot of room for growth."
On what she saw from the three newcomers in Alayna Gribble, Jasmine Whitney, and Brandi Harvey-Carr:
"Gribble got us off to a good start and provided a lot of energy for us. Whitney was a spark off the bench for us. She was really crafty with her off-ball screens and I thought she provided a lot of energy for us. Game experience was the biggest thing for Harvey-Carr, getting her the ball and getting her touches. She's coming from more of a reserve role [at DePaul] to a starting one here. We expect her to make an impact here."
On what she is looking to improve ahead of Mount St. Mary's:
"We always ask ourselves why we do this, because coaching against family is never easy. It's just great to be on the sideline again and see our players in uniform and lace them up. They are so tired of practicing against each other and our practice guys, we really needed this to be out in uniform. We don't really know what we look like until this happens. We have a lot of room for growth, but I'm excited with what we have."
Pitt Forward Brenna Wise
On how the newcomers adjusted:
"I think they did phenomenally. I think they fit in well with our team. They bring a lot to our team that we didn't previously have. They make us more dynamic and now the scoring across the board is pretty even."
On how the team performed as a whole:
"I am so proud of our team. First game coming out here, first game at home, first game suiting up in the uniform; I think we looked strong. This is the first of many wins hopefully. I love what we came out with. We have an inside presence, we have an outside presence. Like our coach told us in the locker room, 'Take the win, but also know that we can only go up from here and continue to get better every day.'"
On what the team is working on:
"Working on our defense, working on our communication, finishing. Finishing is a big key. Maybe it was just the nerves, first game out here in the uniform. Just knowing where our shots are coming from and playing for all forty minutes is important to us."
On getting the whole team involved scoring the basketball:
"I love it. I think that's phenomenal. Now we're not a one or two-dimensional team. We're going to be tough to guard and every game, every team is going to have to be ready for us because we have a lot to bring to the table."
Pitt Center Brandi Harvey-Carr
On her first game at Pitt:
"I felt good. The squad was really good. Coming from DePaul, I felt like the transition was very smooth. We play a five-out set, just like DePaul. The team is very welcoming."
On leading the team in both scoring and rebounds in the game:
"As you can see, it was a little rough. I was a little hard on myself, but as the game processed and went on, I was able to talk to myself, take some deep breaths, and was able to do what I do. Just rebound and get some put-backs. I had to just take my time and go up strong and finish."
