LEXINGTON, Ky. - Pitt volleyball players Jenna Potts and Stephanie Williams earned AVCA Division I Honorable Mention All-America honors, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Wednesday.
Potts, a redshirt senior who played her final season for Pitt, adds All-America accolades to her long list of awards, including All-Region, All-ACC and preseason All-ACC. She was the Panthers' leading defensive threat at the net this season and became the Panthers' top blocker in program history. She became Pitt's all-time leader in career total blocks (573) and block assists (509) this season, and currently sits seventh all-time amongst active players in the NCAA in total blocks. Potts stockpiled a total of 160 blocks in 2016 which ranked second in the ACC. She compiled 16 solo blocks and produced 1.32 blocks per set, both good for fourth in conference play.
Williams, also an All-Region and All-ACC honoree, earned All-America honors after returning from injury and becoming Pitt's offensive catalyst during 2016 season. The Panthers' go-to hitter finished the season with 26 double-digit kill games and collected a team leading 16 double-doubles. Williams became a presence in the ACC rankings, as her 467 kills and 3.77 kills per set average ended up fourth in the conference. The redshirt freshman will look to continue her own success and aid in the Panthers' when she returns next season.
2016 marks the third straight year Pitt has had at least one player earn All-America accolades.
