Pitt Hosts Kent State in Annual Blue-Gold Exhibition

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team will unofficially get the 2016-17 season underway Friday evening, hosting the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage with Kent State.
Action is set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. Admission is free for all fans.
The Panthers are coming off of their first East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) title in program history, as the 2016 campaign marked an historic one for 31-year head coach Debbie Yohman and her staff.
The Panthers return a bevy of talent to the 2017 roster, led by seniors Kelly Burak, Tracey Pearson, Ellie Pikula and Erika Reichert. Pearson competed at the NCAA regional meet last season and is primed to be Pitt's top all-arounder. Burak was an alternate on beam at the regional meet.
Despite the graduation of one of the top gymnasts in program history in Lindsay Offutt, Yohman welcomed six newcomers in Rachel Dugan, Deven Herbine, Lucy Jones, Hallie Peele, Alecia Petrikis and Megan Tripp, whom are all expected to contribute this season.
The regular season will get underway Jan. 7, as Pitt hosts three meets in the month of January before taking to the road for a majority of the year. The Jan. 7 meet with Ohio State will be followed by a Jan. 13 meeting with West Virginia before the team's first road contest in New Hampshire. January will come to a close with a meet on the 27th as the Panthers host EAGL rival UNC.
