PITTSBURGH – On Sunday, Nov. 27, the University of Pittsburgh volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2004.
The Panthers took on No. 23 Dayton in the opening round at Rec Hall in University Park, Pa., and defeated the Flyers 3-1.
Pitt faced No. 13 Penn State on their home court in the second round, which was also the case in 2003, the last time the Panthers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. During that year, Pitt took down Penn University 3-1 in the opening round and went on to face then ranked No. 10 Nittany Lions. The Panthers fell to Penn State 3-1 in 2003 and again in 2016.
Pitt concluded the season 25-9.
