
Men's 4x400 Relay Team Places Third in ACC Championships

BOSTON-- The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field team completed the 2016 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. The Panthers recorded seven top-ten finishes in the finals and 10 total throughout the weekend.
Highlighting day three of competition was the men's 4x400m relay team. The squad comprised of senior Christopher Tate, junior Joshua McDonald, junior Desmond Palmer, and senior Donnell Taylor placed third overall in a time of 3:13.43. Their third place finish landed them second team All-ACC honors.
In the women's shot put, Pitt had two top-ten finishers: senior Racquel Williams (15.28m) who placed fourth and freshman Kailyn Clancy (14.57) who finished seventh. Williams earned second team All-ACC honors. All points for the female team was acquired through field events.
For the men, junior Chris Spadaro failed to make the finals but recorded a personal best distance of 14.80 in the triple jump during the preliminaries.
Earning second team All-ACC accolades for each of his individual events was Chris Tate. Tate placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 48.19 and sixth in the 200m in a time of 21.59. Junior Ashad Johnson-Conley also earned second team All-ACC honors for his time of 8.17 in the 60mh, which was good enough for sixth place.
At the conclusion of the championships, Pitt walked away with one ACC Champion in graduate student Andrew Wells, with his distance of 21.92m in the weight throw. The men's team finished in 10th place recording 28 points. The women's team, with only nine points, landed in 15th place.
Wells will participate in the NCAA Indoor National Championship Meet from March 11-12, while the rest of the the Panthers will kick off their outdoor season on March 18 at the Wake Forest Open. Be sure to follow @Pitt_TF_XC on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
