Ugwu Earns Honorable Mention All-American Status At NCAA National Championships

Eugene, Ore. – Sophomore Emeka Ugwu became the first Pitt male to compete in shot put at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, placing 23^rd Wednesday night to earn honorable mention All-American status.

Ugwu threw 56-feet-8.75 (17.29m) on his second attempt of the evening to record his best distance of the event. He was one of just two competitors from the ACC to qualify for the national championships, held at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Senior Niya Crawford will also represent Pitt in the shot put. She will compete Thursday at 10:10 p.m. ET (7:10 p.m. PT).
