LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team suffered a 65-36 loss to No. 10 Louisville in the Panthers' regular season finale on Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center.
Pitt (12-17, 4-12 ACC) had a rough shooting afternoon as the Panthers connected on just 19 percent of their shots. Conversely, Louisville (24-6, 15-1 ACC) shot 49.1 percent for the game (26-of-53).
Sophomore Yacine Diop led the Panthers with 12 points, but Pitt could not slow down ACC Player of the Year candidate Myisha Hines-Allen who scored a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the first half on 8-of-8 shooting. She also added 13 rebounds.
Led by Hines-Allen and Briahanna Jackson, Louisville raced out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back. The Cardinals led 27-6 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 42-10 at halftime.
Pitt outscored the Cardinals 26-23 in the second half, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome for the victory. Louisville has won 21 of their last 22 games.
The Panthers now head to the ACC Tournament and their seed will be determined at the conclusion of today's league action. The Panthers will either be the 11, 12 or 13 seed and will play on Wednesday in Greensboro. The time and opponent are still TBA.
