Pitt Gymnastics Edged by No. 25 West Virginia

PITTSBURGH -- Although suffering a 195.825-195.675 loss to No. 25 West Virginia, the University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (6-18, 2-5 EAGL) had a day full of record-setting performances Sunday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
"That is the way it's supposed to happen," head coach Debbie Yohman said. "Kudos to our seniors and kudos to our underclassmen for backing them up. We always have a good senior meet, and nobody disappointed."
Senior Lindsay Offutt finished her regular season floor routine by matching her career-high 9.950 score. Offutt's outstanding performance gave Pitt an overall floor score of 49.425, a season best. The White Lake, Mich., native finished first on floor and tied for first on beam with a score of 9.850, en route to an all-around first place finish with 39.250.

MEET RUNDOWN
Pitt started the afternoon on vault and scored a team total 48.625, while West Virginia started on bars and also scored a team total 48.625. Junior Tracey Pearson led the Panthers with a 9.825 on vault, good for fourth place. Freshman Brittany West recorded a 9.750 for the third time this season, tying her for fifth alongside two Mountaineers.
Pitt then hit the bars and were led by senior Lindsay Offutt who posted a 9.800. Pearson and freshman Lucy Brett each scored a 9.725, a career-high for Brett. The Panthers finished with a team score of 48.700 on bars.
The third rotation featured a season-high team score of 48.925 and was highlighted by career-high set by senior Lisa Soto and West with a 9.850. Offutt would also score a 9.850, locking in three Panthers for first place.
Pitt shined on the floor in the final rotation of the day. Offutt led the Panthers by matching her career-high 9.950 en route to a team season-high 49.425 score. Dotson and Pearson also ended the meet on a high note as they each recorded a 9.900.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return to the Fitzgerald Field House Saturday, March 19 as they host the 2016 EAGL Championships. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
