CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Pitt tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road to No. 13 Virginia Friday afternoon at the Snyder Tennis Center.

The Panthers fall to 7-12 overall and 1-12 in the ACC while the Cavaliers improve to 13-9 and 8-5 against conference opponents.

"Virginia is a better team than us," head coach Alex Santos said. "In doubles we were a couple points away from making it very interesting, but details separated us from our goal. In singles, we could have been a little bit more patient and extended the rallies longer. Another great job from Amber [Washington] and bringing that positivity when we needed it the most. We want to finish our regular season strong."

The Cavaliers got on the board first after notching back-to-back doubles wins on courts two and one. The Pitt tandem of freshman Carina Ma and sophomore Callie Frey fell first to their Virginia opponents 6-2, before the junior duo of Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan dropped a 6-2 decision as well.

In singles action, Blakely was the first Panther to fall. She dropped straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to second-ranked Danielle Collins on court one.

Virginia would go on to collect wins on courts three, four, two and six before Washington put Pitt on the board after a victory on court five.

Washington outlasted Erica Susi in the first set 7-5 and dominated in the second set, coming out with a 6-2 win.

The Panthers conclude the regular season Sunday, April 17 in Tallahassee, Fla., against No. 57 Florida State. Action is set to begin at noon.
