ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Rising Pitt senior Audrey Ann Blakely continues to gain valuable competition experience this summer after reaching the singles and doubles finals of the 2016 ITA Summer Circuit at Sonoma State University this weekend.
This is the third ITA Summer Circuit Blakely has competed in this summer, as the Circuit features 51 tournaments spread across 24 states.
"I am very happy to see Audrey Ann competing on a regular basis during the summer," head coach Alex Santos said. "The success she has been having will hopefully help her in her senior year with her confidence and preparation. I spoke with her after the match and was happy to see her making a mature analysis and wanting to put the work in to become a better player."
Blakely entered singles competition as the No. 4 seed and received an opening round bye. The Wyomissing, Pa., native, cruised to the semifinals after collecting three wins in straight sets. In the finals, Blakely dropped a hard-fought 7-5 first set and fell again in the second, 6-3.
In doubles action, Blakely competed alongside Daphne De Chatellus, a rising junior from Georgetown. The tandem received an opening round bye and earned a victory in the semifinals due to injury. In the finals, the duo fell short, 9-8.
Pitt returns seven of eight student-athletes from a year ago that features redshirt senior Amber Washington who completed the 2015-16 season with an impressive 26-8 overall record. The veteran squad will also consist three experienced sophomores, a junior and two seniors.
