Panthers to Commence Regular Season at Schenley Park

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's and women's cross country teams will begin their 2016 campaign on familiar grounds when they compete in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park at the Duquesne Duals Saturday.
The women's 5K race will start at 9 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 8K race at 9:45 a.m. ET. The events are open to the public. A recap of the day's races, including results and times, will be posted to PittsburghPanthers.com.
PITT PARTICIPANTS
- Four of the five men's entries will be racing for the first time as Panthers, including freshmen Drew Glick, Jackson Morton and Nick Wolk. Sophomore James Hare will also be competing in his first Pitt race. Senior Alex Archer rounds out the list of Panther competitors.
- The women will also be running a young squad, highlighted by freshmen Olivia Berry (redshirt), Amina Chtourou, Sarah Frick and Sam Shields. Seven sophomores, seven juniors and two seniors complete the women's side.
PANTHERS RISE IN RANKINGS
- The Panther women earned their highest preseason ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll, coming in at sixth place Monday. The men's team also earned an improved ranking, placing 14th in the region.
- Both the men's and women's squads earned improved rankings in the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Poll, released Thursday. The women jumped from 14th in 2015 to eighth place, while the men were elevated from 14th to 13th.
AT THE HELM
- The women are led by fourth-year coach Adam Bray. With his guidance, the Panthers tied a program-best finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional (seventh) and made their best ACC Championship finish (ninth) in 2015.
- Coach Bryan Jackson enters his second season with Pitt men's cross country. In his first season, Jackson led the Panthers to a team win at the UB Stampede (Sept. 12, 2015), as well as an individual win for Michael Runco at the same event.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt will hit the road for its next event, the Tommy Evans Invitational, hosted by Akron on Thursday, Sept. 9.
- The women's 5K race will start at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men's 4-miler at 6:15 p.m. ET.
