PITTSBURGH - The Pitt tennis team heads to Evanston, Ill., Friday, Sept. 30 to compete in its second fall invitational of the year for the Wildcat Invite at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. The weekend long competition is set to start at 9 a.m. each day.
Participating schools include host Northwestern, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan State, Notre Dame, UIC and Wisconsin.
This time last year, junior Callie Frey worked her way to a second place finish in the White singles draw.
The Panthers opened the fall season a week ago in Coral Gables, Fla., at the Miami Fall Invite, compiling a 13-15 record on the weekend. Senior Audrey Ann Blakely and sophomore Gabriela Rezende each finished 2-1 in singles play, while Rezende finished with a perfect 3-0 doubles record alongside Frey.
Pitt enters the weekend coming off of a 7-14 (1-13 ACC) record from last spring. The Panthers are led by an experienced veteran group, headlined by redshirt senior Amber Washington, as well as seniors Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan. Blakely enters this fall with a national ranking of 121. The only new member of the team is freshman Jovana Knezevic.
