Panthers Fall to Penn State, 59-48

Garven Posts Double-Double, Bradley Leads Pitt in Scoring
PITTSBURGH – Junior forward Danielle Garven posted the first double-double of her Pitt women's basketball career in a 59-48 loss for the Panthers (6-5, 0-0 ACC) against Penn State (9-3, 0-0 Big Ten) Sunday afternoon at Petersen Events Center.
Garven had 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, tying her personal best on the boards. Junior guard Kauai Bradley drained a career-high four 3-pointers and went 3-of-3 from the free throw line to lead Pitt in scoring with 15 points.
As a team, Pitt had the advantage in rebounding (42-38). The Lady Lions held a 17-1 differential in bench scoring. Junior guard Teniya Page had a career-high 27 points for Penn State on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 from long range and 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
The Panthers had a hot start, opening the game with a 10-1 advantage on the scoreboard. However, the Lady Lions answered with a 16-0 run over the final 4:14 of the period to take a 17-10 lead at the first break. Foul trouble plagued the Panthers in the first 10 minutes, with Kalista Walters and Jasmine Whitney each recording two fouls apiece.
An 8-0 run from the Panthers helped to close the gap in the second period, putting Pitt within three, down 24-21 (2:06). Bradley had nine points in the quarter on two 3-pointers and three free throws. The Lady Lions' Page hit a jumper at the buzzer to make it 27-22 in Penn State's favor at halftime.
Penn State opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to reach a 35-22 lead at 7:14. The Panthers answered with a 9-2 run of their own to come within six, down 37-31 (2:54). However, Pitt fell back into a double-figure deficit to end the third period, down 46-35.
The Lady Lions reached their largest lead of 14 (49-35) on a jumper from Siyeh Frazier with 9:41 to go in the game. Pitt used an 8-0 run to come back within single digits, down 49-43 at 6:17. The dagger from Penn State came in the form of eight consecutive points from Page, including back-to-back threes, with under five minutes remaining, which put the Lady Lions back into a double-figure margin. The Panthers were unable to overcome the deficit and fell, 59-48.
