PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team will travel to Denton, Texas this weekend to face Texas Woman's University, No. 15 Auburn and East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State at Kitty Magee Arena.

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team will travel to Denton, Texas this weekend to face Texas Woman's University, No. 15 Auburn and East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State at Kitty Magee Arena.
THE MEET
- The Panthers (2-6, 2-1 EAGL) will face the Pioneers (3-3, 3-0 MIC), Tigers (2-5, 1-3 SEC) and Wolfpack (8-3, 3-0 EAGL) Sunday, Feb. 11. Action is set to begin at 3 p.m. EST.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt placed third with a 193.125 in its quad meet against NC State, Temple and Towson Saturday, Feb. 3.
- Two Panther gymnasts collected individual titles in the meet. Freshman Haley Brechwald tied for the top spot on bars with a 9.825 and floor with a season-high tying 9.875 to win the all-around title outright with a 39.075. Sophomore Megan Tripp also tied for first on bars with a season-high tying mark of 9.825.
RELEVANT RANKINGS
- Pitt ranks 44th in the nation with an average team score of 194.150 through four meets.
- The Panthers rank 26th on bars with a 48.556, are tied for 35th on floor with a 48.850, rank 44th on vault with a 48.556 and sit 54th on beam with a 47.969.
- Individually, Brechwald is tied for 44th in the nation on floor with an average score of 9.856, is tied for 66th in the all-around with a 38.925 and is tied for 99th on bars with a 9.794. Senior Catie Conrad is tied for 72nd on beam with a 9.813 and ranks 95th in the all-around with a 38.692. Tripp is tied for 87th on bars with a season average of 9.800.
CONFERENCE COMPETITION
- The Panthers have competed against three EAGL foes so far this season. Pitt defeated New Hampshire, 196.225-195.175, in its record-setting dual meet Jan. 20. In last Saturday's quad meet, the Panthers fell to NC State while defeating Towson, putting them at 2-1 on the season in conference competition.
- Pitt is slated for three more meets against conference opponents in the regular season. The Panthers will face NC State for the second-consecutive meet this Sunday. They will also face George Washington in a tri-meet March 11 before squaring off against North Carolina in a dual meet March 17.
- The EAGL Championship is scheduled for March 24.
A FRESHMAN TO FEAR
- Brechwald was named EAGL Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after an exceptional performance in Pitt's home quad meet last Saturday.
- Brechwald has collected nine individual titles through four meets. She earned the bars, floor and all-around title in Pitt's most recent meet. Versus New Hampshire, Brechwald took home the bars, floor and all-around title. Against Oregon State, she won vault, bars and the all-around title.
- Brechwald is currently averaging scores of 9.856 on floor, 9.794 on bars, 9.750 on vault and 9.525 on beam for an all-around average of 38.925.
YOU CAN COUNT ON CONRAD
- Conrad has become a strong veteran leader in her first year with the Panthers, after spending her last three years at EMU.
- Conrad has collected four individual titles through four meets. She brought home the beam title in Pitt's quad meet at Michigan State, took bars and beam against New Hampshire and won bars in Pitt's season opener against Oregon State.
- Conrad is currently averaging scores of 9.812 on beam, 9.738 on floor, 9.517 on vault and 9.506 on bars for an all-around average of 38.692.
PITT VERSUS TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY
- Pitt will face Texas Woman's University for the fifth time in program history, with the series currently knotted at two wins apiece.
- The Pioneers came out with a narrow victory over the Panthers in their last meeting, taking a 193.575-193.475 win March 6, 2016.
- In their four meetings, Pitt has held a slight advantage in average score, leading TWU by a mark of 193.569-193.250.
SCOUTING TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY
- The Pioneers are 3-3 on the season and 3-0 in MIC competition. Most recently, TWU defeated Centenary College (Louisiana), 192.650-189.750, Sunday, Feb. 4.
- As a team, Texas Woman's University ranks 40th in the nation on vault (48.705), 57th on beam (47.850), 59th on bars (47.770) and 60th on floor (48.145).
- Senior Schyler Jones leads the team on vault with a season average of 9.805 (tied for 86th in the nation). Senior Mallory Moredock ranks first on floor with a 9.785 and beam with a 9.665 and sophomore Bria Northrop heads the team on bars with an average of 9.715.
PITT VERSUS AUBURN
- The Panthers will square off against No. 15 Auburn for the ninth time in program history, with the Tigers holding the all-time series edge over Pitt, 7-1.
- Auburn came out with a 196.300-194.200 victory when the two teams last met March 10, 2017.
- Pitt's lone win against the Tigers came via a 193.050-192.500 victory Feb. 1, 2002.
SCOUTING AUBURN
- Auburn is 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in the SEC, though they boast an average score of 196.040. Most recently, the Tigers fell to No. 5 Florida, 197.400-197.000, Friday, Feb. 2.
- As a team, Auburn ranks ninth in the nation on vault (49.085), 11th on bars (49.035), 12th on beam (49.070) and is tied for 35th on floor (48.850).
- Junior Samantha Cerio leads the team on bars with a season average of 9.895 (tied for ninth in the nation). Freshman Jada Glenn and sophomore Gracie Day are tied for the top spot on vault with an average of 9.855 (tied for 26th in the nation). Redshirt junior Abby Milliet heads the team on floor with an average of 9.850 (tied for 48th in the nation) and redshirt sophomore Emma Slappey and freshman Allie Riddle share the top spot on beam with a 9.805 (tied for 81st in the nation).
PITT VERSUS NC STATE
- Pitt will match up against NC State for the 45th time in program history, with the Wolfpack owning the all-time series edge against the Panthers, 36-8.
- NC State defeated the Panthers last weekend in Pitt's home quad meet by a score of 194.600-193.125.
- Pitt last defeated the Wolfpack, 195.675-194.500, at the EAGL Championship March 21, 2016.
- NC State is 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in EAGL competition. Most recently, the Wolfpack placed first in their quad meet against Pitt, Temple and Towson Saturday, Feb. 3.
