PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team will travel to Washington, D.C., to face No. 18 George Washington and West Virginia this weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center.

THE MEET
- The Panthers (6-11, 3-1 EAGL) will face the Colonials (18-5, 4-0 EAGL) and the Mountaineers (8-9, 0-2 B12) Sunday, March 11. Action is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt jumped into the record book in multiple categories while placing second in its final home meet of the season against Penn State, Temple and West Virginia.
- The Panthers team score of 196.475 ranks second all-time, trailing only the 196.525 set by the 2004 Pitt squad.
- The team's 49.175 on vault also ranks second all-time, while their 49.100 on beam is tied for the fourth best mark in program history and their 49.075 on bars ranks eighth all-time.
- Individually, freshman Haley Brechwald earned a season-high all-around score of 39.375, which is tied for the fourth highest mark in program history. Brechwald also earned Pitt's lone individual title of the day with a season-high 9.875 on beam.
RELEVANT RANKINGS
- The Panthers rank fourth in the North East Region and 41st in the nation with an RQS of 195.060.
- Pitt ranks third in the North East Region on floor with an RQS of 48.950, is tied for third on bars with a 48.905, ranks fourth on vault at 48.745 and fifth on beam with a 48.555.
- The Panthers RQS of 48.905 on bars is also tied for 31st in the nation.
- Individually, Brechwald ranks 37th in the nation in the all-around with an RQS of 39.205 and is tied for 56th on floor with a 9.865, while senior Catie Conrad ranks 68th in the all-around with a 38.860.
CONFERENCE COMPETITION
- Sunday's meet against EAGL foe George Washington marks the Panthers' fifth contest against conference competition. Pitt defeated New Hampshire, 196.225-195.175, in its record-setting dual meet Jan. 20. In the Panthers home meet Feb. 3, they defeated Towson while falling to NC State. Pitt faced NC State for a second time in a quad meet at TWU Feb. 11, coming out with a 196.100-195.925 victory over the Wolfpack to improve to 3-1 in conference competition on the season.
- Pitt has one conference matchup left on its regular season schedule, with a dual meet against North Carolina set for March 17.
- The EAGL Championship is scheduled for March 24 at Towson.
A FRESHMAN TO FEAR
- Brechwald has been named EAGL Rookie of the Week five times so far this year, which ties an EAGL record for most Rookie of the Week honors in a season.
- Brechwald has collected 12 individual titles through eight meets. She earned the beam title in Pitt's final home meet of the season last Sunday. Brechwald also earned the bars title in Pitt's meet at WVU and took the all-around title in the Panthers' quad meet at TWU. She earned the bars, floor and all-around title in Pitt's home meet against NC State, Temple and Towson. Versus New Hampshire, Brechwald took home the bars, floor and all-around title. Against Oregon State, she won vault, bars and the all-around title.
- She currently ranks first on the team in RQS on floor with a 9.865, on bars at 9.825 and on vault with a 9.805. Her all-around RQS of 39.205 is also tops on the team.
PITT VERSUS GEORGE WASHINGTON
- Pitt will face No. 18 George Washington for the 31st time in program history, with the Panthers owning a 16-14 all-time series edge against the Colonials.
- George Washington defeated Pitt in its most recent meeting, earning a 196.275-194.100 victory March 18, 2017.
- The Panthers went undefeated against the Colonials during a recent six-year stretch, earning 13 consecutive victories from 2008 to 2014.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
- No. 18 George Washington is 18-5 on the season and 4-0 in EAGL competition. Most recently, the Colonials placed first in a home quad meet with a season-high 196.825 against Maryland, Rutgers and Towson March 4.
- As a team, George Washington ranks eighth in the nation on vault with an RQS of 49.190, is tied for 14th on floor with a 49.235, ranks 16th on beam at 49.130 and 30th on bars with a 48.930.
- Senior Camille Drouin-Allaire ranks first on the team on vault with a RQS of 9.910 (ranks sixth in the nation) and floor with a 9.900 (tied for 18th in the nation) while senior Jillian Winstanley leads the team on beam with a 9.880 (tied for 32nd in the nation) and bars with a 9.860 (tied for 41st in the nation).
PITT VERSUS WEST VIRGINIA
- The Panthers will square off against West Virginia for the 77th time in program history, with WVU controlling the all-time series with a 60-14-2 advantage.
- The two teams have already met twice this season, with the Mountaineers earning a 196.225-195.250 victory in WVU's Feb. 18 tri-meet and the Panthers recording a 196.475-196.075 win in their home quad meet last Sunday.
- The Panthers and Mountaineers also met three times in the 2017 season, with Pitt recording a 194.025-193.875 win in their first meeting of the season Jan. 13, 2017.
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA
- West Virginia owns an 8-9 overall record and a 0-3 mark in Big 12 competition. Most recently, the Mountaineers placed third with a 196.075 in Pitt's quad meet last Sunday.
- As a team, WVU ranks 14th in the nation on vault with an RQS of 49.125, is tied for 29th on floor with a 49.090, ranks 30th on beam at 48.855 and 42nd on bars with a 48.745.
- Junior Kirah Koshinski leads the team on vault with an RQS of 9.895 (tied for 12th in the nation) and on floor with a 9.870 (tied for 49th in the nation). Junior Carly Galpin ranks first on beam with an RQS of 9.800 and junior Jaquie Tun heads the team on bars with a 9.795.
UP NEXT
- Pitt will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face EAGL foe North Carolina in its last regular season matchup of the season Saturday, March 17 at Carmichael Arena.
