Pitt Returns Home Thursday to Host Miami
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team wrapped up a challenging three-game ACC road trip Sunday evening, falling to Virginia Tech 2-0 at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.
Both defenses set the tone early in the opening half as rookie goalkeeper Katherine Robinson made four crucial saves to hold things scoreless through the majority of the period. The Hokies would swing momentum in their favor as a goal in the final 30 seconds of the half gave the home team the lead at the break.
Virginia Tech would extend its lead in the 54th minute, taking a 2-0 advantage.
The Panthers would get some good chances midway through the second half as both Anna Rico and Aideen O'Donoghue attempted to ignite the Pitt offense. The Hokies, however, would remain in control and capture their third straight win to remain undefeated at home.
Robinson would wrap up her second career start with six saves. Pitt tallied six shots on the evening, led by two from Rico.
The Panthers return to action Thursday, hosting Miami at Ambrose Urbanic Field at 7 p.m.
