Perry Homers as Panthers Drop to 1-1
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh baseball team fell in the first of two games scheduled for Saturday at Osceola County Stadium, dropping a 10-1 decision to Iowa.
Pitt got in trouble early, as the Hawkeyes were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead through two, extending the advantage to 4-0 in the third. The Hawkeyes would score single runs in the fourth and fifth, plating three in the eighth to take a 10-0 lead.
The Panthers' lone run came in the eighth inning, as senior Connor Perry connected on the first home run of his career, sending a solo shot over the wall in right.
Junior Christian Camacho (0-1) suffered the loss in his Pitt debut, allowing six runs off eight hits and three walks, striking out three. Senior William Kirwan, freshman Mason Ronan and redshirt sophomore Jack Hogan all saw action out of the bullpen.
Offensively, the Panthers collected just three hits, with Perry, Chris Cappas and Cole MacLaren getting past the Hawkeye pitching staff.
The Panthers return to action at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, closing out the day with a nightcap against Marshall.
