Panthers Fall At Home Sunday To Clemson

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-10, 0-6 ACC) fell at home Sunday afternoon to the Clemson Tigers by the score of 72-57. Junior Liatu King secured her fourth double-double of the season in the loss with 10 points and 13 boards.
Maliyah Johnson led the Panthers in scoring as she netted 15 points on 6-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-9 from deep. King finished her afternoon with 10 points, a team-high 13 rebounds and two blocks while Amber Brown had 10 points, three assists and two steals in 35 minutes of work, her sixth straight game scoring in double figures.

FIRST QUARTER
- After exchanging buckets early on, the Tigers got out to the 10-6 lead three minutes in as they netted six straight points.
- Pitt came right back with a 12-0 run as Emy Hayford and Gabby Hutcherson netted back-to-back triples and Amber Brown finished off two straight fast break layups to give the Panthers the 18-10 lead late in the first quarter.
- The Pitt defense held strong down the stretch as they didn't allow a Clemson point for the final six minutes of the first quarter.
- Pitt had seven different players score in the quarter while also forcing eight turnovers by the Tigers in the opening 10 minutes.
- The offense continued the strong start early in the second for Pitt as Liatu King finished off a layup and Maliyah Johnson finished off a back door layup to make it 22-12 in favor of Pitt two minutes into the quarter.
- After a Clemson layup, Johnson knocked down a corner triple to give Pitt their largest lead of the game at the media timeout, 27-14.
- The Panthers were able to push their lead to 17, 34-17, late in the second but the Tigers ended the half on a 7-0 run to make it 34-24 in favor of Pitt at half.

- The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 11-2 run to get back within one, 36-35, just under four minutes in and forced Pitt to call a timeout.
