
No. 25 Panthers Open Season Against Navy Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt wrestling team opens the 2024-25 season Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Fitzgerald Field House against Navy. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. with Jason Earle and Dom Trozzi calling the action on ACC Network Extra.
THE SERIES
- The Panthers host the Midshipmen in Pittsburgh for the first time since the 1997 season. Pitt has not won against Navy in Pittsburgh since defeating the Midshipmen 22-20 on Jan. 28, 1989.
- Pitt will face off against Navy to open the dual season for the second consecutive year. The Panthers fell to the Midshipmen 21-12 at the Navy Duals in Annapolis last season.
PANTHERS IN THE POLLS
- Pitt enters the season ranked No. 25 in the team NWCA Coaches Poll.
- The Panthers have seven wrestlers ranked in the InterMat Preseason rankings, including four ranked in the top 20 and two ranked in the top 15.
- Dayton Pitzer enters the season ranked No. 12 at 285 by InterMat. Pitzer returns after posting a 12-7 record in an injury-altered first full season for the Panthers in 2023-24. Last season, Pitzer qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time and won a match at nationals.
- Mac Stout is ranked No. 14 at 197 by InterMat after a strong 2023-24 season. Stout took over as Pitt's starter at 197 pounds and led the team with 23 wins last season. Stout also placed third at the ACC Championship and advanced to the Round of 16 in his first NCAA Championships.
MUST-WATCH REMATCHES
- At 133, No. 31 Vinnie Santaniello and Brendan Ferretti will have a rematch from a year ago. Then-ranked No. 17 Ferretti defeated No. 10 Santaniello, 3-2, at the Navy duals in Annapolis.
- No. 19 Luca Augustine and No. 22 Danny Wask will face off again at 174. Last season, No. 22 Augustine defeated No. 30 Wask, 9-7, to even the all-time series against each other 1-1.
MEET THE NEWCOMERS
- Nick Babin, a 2023 NCAA Championship Qualifier, will join the Panthers for his final year of eligibility after spending four seasons at Columbia. Babin enters the season ranked No. 28 at 125 by InterMat.
- Freshman Kade Brown impressed at the Panthers Blue-Gold dual, winning both of his bouts at 149 against redshirt-sophomores Jack Pletcher and Finn Solomon. Brown is an Ohio state champion out of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.
